All But My Life

I was surprised when Gerda decided to continue on going to the camp, when she could have gone to live with Abek and his family. I respect her decision though to stay because she knew it would not feel right if she stayed with Abek and his family. Also, she felt as if she would be getting special priveleges if she left. On page 122, Mrs. Berger is telling Gerda that her father is dead. "He is dead," she repeated. "You will never see him again, nor your mother." I thought that was very unsympathetic. She should not have said that or she could have said it not so blunt and straightfoward. I was also surprised that the Nazi commanders are being civil with Gerda. For instance, on page 126 when Gerda damaged her looms, Meister Zimmer simply said, "See that this never happens again." I thought he would have punished her more severly.
