All But My Life

Within reading the first half of the book, what impacted me the most is actually trying to consume the strength they had to gain in such a matter of time, Gerda, her mother, and father had to watch Arthur leave and walk out of their home knowing he may not return. Going months without hearing from him. However, a particular part that gave me a weird uneasy feeling was when Peter visited Gerda , and her family baring lies telling them of Arthur's supposed wellness. I do understand he was only trying to make the family happy, but I feel it was inappropriate to only leave Gerda with the truth; knowing how hard it must have been for her not knowing the bouts of her brother. I felt that the Germans were tearing their life apart , and they knew exactly what would effect there joy and what wouldn't. Forcing a Jew to wear a Jewish star was nothing but showing his or her religion. Banning them from their own business, garden, work places took away some of their happiness . Taking away their family is taking away ones lively hood. I was confused when Gerda, the mother, and father parted ways. Gerda showed no feelings which scared me. I knew she cared, but at that moment her mom probably needed her the most and she showed no affection. She barely even looked back at her mother, that very moment I would have embraced my mother not wanting to let go .
