pg. 3-134

In the begining I thought that it was very sad when Gerda had to see her brother walking away from the family; which she knew that he was going to die. How she dealt with it i'm not real sure. I was happy to figure out though later in the story that Arthur is ok when he sends a letter to Gerda and the family. It was also depressing that Gerda's neighbors were being kind to the Nazi's and started to take advantage of her family because they had to sell everything even their factory. Their neighbors were buying things for a fraction of the value that they're worth. Later it was even worse that Gerda had come to the realization of what the Nazi's would do. Her friend Erika sent her a letter that said that her mother, little brother, and boyfriend had to lay naked on the ground in the center of the town and get trampled by Nazis on horses. I also don't understand why Gerda want to be more than friends with Abek. Abek obviously liked Gerda but she didn't like him and like the book said, their were just alot of awkward silences; which nobody ever likes.
